Abstract / Full Text

A study is performed of patterns inherent to the kinetics of the sorption of cadmium and cobalt ions from model solutions on an inorganic titanium phosphate-based sorbent, depending on the temperature of the solution. Experimental dependences are derived for the kinetics of ion exchange. These dependences reflect three types of exchange mechanisms: surface exchange, the diffusion of ions into the volume of a sorbent, and a heterogeneous exchange reaction with the formation of a new phase. Inner diffusion coefficients, rate constants of ion exchange, and apparent activation energies are determined for inner and outer diffusion. The effective radii of adsorbed ions and the degree of their dehydration are determined to explain the differences between the rates of adsorption for cadmium and cobalt.
