Abstract / Full Text

The study of the electrochemical chlorination of ethylene in the flow-type regime on the graphiteelectrode in HCl medium at the temperatures from 10 to 70°C are performed. The influence of ethylene on theelectrochemical behavior of the graphite anode in HCl medium is proved using voltammetry and cyclic voltammetry. On the basis of the cyclic voltammetric results obtained, we suggest that, together with heterogeneousprocess of ethylene chlorination on the graphite proposed by Tedoradze et al., the process of free radical chlorination with the reaction chain initiated on the electrode surface takes place during electrochemical chlorination of ethylene on the graphite in HCl.
