Abstract / Full Text

The aim of the presented work was to investigate the adsorption of the acid blue 29 (TB) textile dye onto two materials based on hydroxyapatite. The first is unmodified hydroxyapatite (HA) and the second is partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide modified HA (mod-HA). The adsorption experiments were performed using batch method. To estimate the HA and mod-HA performance for TB removal, contact time between adsorbent and adsorbate, initial TB concentration, pH of the dye solution and temperature were used as variable parameters. The obtained results suggest that the adsorption of TB onto HA and mod-HA was rapid process that can be described well by the pseudo-second order kinetic model. The maximum adsorption capacities by HA and mod-HA were 352.65 and 367.83 mg/g, respectively, and the corresponding data were best fitted by Temkin isotherm model. In addition, the optimum pH range for TB removal is from 4.82 to 9.45. Furthermore, the thermodynamic study allowed deducing that TB removal by using the two materials is an exothermic and spontaneous process.
